DiabInnov conducts functional studies on human pancreatic islets

DiabInnov offers the possibility to study pancreatic islets up close for the understanding of loss of function and survival of islet cells that characterizes all forms of diabetes. The use of experimental models with great translational value enables our clients to make great strides towards the discovery of new drug targets and the identification of innovative strategies for the treatment and prevention of metabolic diseases.

DiabInnov conducts functional studies on human pancreatic islets by dynamic hormone secretion, drug toxicity and efficacy studied for development of new anti-diabetic medication. Signalling pathways are also studied, aiming to better understand the cellular mechanisms that allow beta cells to survive and adequately secrete insulin under conditions of obesity and insulin resistance. We also aimed to identify possible candidates involved in the development of type-2 diabetes and its worsening over time.

Difficulties with recovering and preserving pancreatic islets have hampered progress in islet transplantation. DiabInnov allow you to probe new islet transplant strategies, using innovative devices, testing transplant sites and studying their functionality in vivo in a preclinical model, to predict long-term outcomes in the clinic.
